Giving Really Brings Joy

Saturday afternoon was a very productive and joyful one. My son and I went to volunteer at a warehouse where Journey Church(our church), partnered with Cru Inner City, an organization that partners with churches to give resources to the most impoverished families in the US. On Saturday, we were able to help pack Easter bags.

It is amazing to see entire families with children as young as 4 years old helping with this beautiful cause. My son is 9 years old and since last year when we went to help with the thanksgiving boxes of love, for the first time, he couldn't wait for the next opportunity to participate.

I didn't realize the joy of giving until I started working and therefore being able to buy gifts for others, and I remember feeling that immense joy for the first time. I didn't have the opportunity to volunteer (or I didn't look for the opportunity to do volunteer work before), until last year.

Watching children give their time and work, by drawing and writing love filled messages and then packing the items with so much enthusiasm is truly inspiring. Being able to volunteer for a worthy cause is a wonderful way of giving and spreading joy and the inner fulfillment that one encounters is an amazing experience to be lived.

We look forward to continue doing volunteer work and now more than ever our hearts are brimming with joy! I think that looking for opportunities to do something meaningful is another step we can all take to design the lives we really desire. A life worth living!
